    EMDR & EMDR Intensives

    What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from different treatment approaches.

    How does EMDR work?

EMDR therapy is an integrative psychotherapy method that uses a technique called bilateral stimulation to repeatedly activate opposite sides of the brain. Therapists often use eye movements to facilitate bilateral stimulation. These eye movements mimic the period of sleep referred to as rapid eye movement or REM sleep, and this portion of sleep is frequently considered to be the time when the mind processes the recent events in the person’s life.

EMDR seems to help the brain reprocess the trapped memories in such a way that normal information processing is resumed. Therapists often use EMDR to help clients uncover and process beliefs that developed as the result of relational traumas, or childhood abuse and/or neglect. EMDR intensive

An EMDR intensive is separate from individual EMDR sessions and are 90- 120 minutes long. This could be just what you need. Intensives enable people to heal from their upsetting memories, overcome their problematic beliefs, emotions, and behaviors, and live their best life.

Looking to heal rapidly and effectively? EMDR intensives work well.

Here at Lilac Dragonfly Therapy, we believe that one of the quickest and most effective ways to reduce or eliminate your symptoms is by doing an EMDR intensive.  It can be hard to do EMDR in hourly sessions due to time constraints and other pressing concerns. In an EMDR intensive, you can focus on healing, working through upsetting and/or traumatic past events and get to a place where you can embrace a more joyful and less overwhelmed you.

Who can benefit from an EMDR intensive?

Sometimes it’s obvious that a trauma or loss is messing you up and you’re having trouble with your daily routine. You may be walking around with grief, pain, intrusive thoughts or images, or perhaps related stress, sadness, anxiety, or anger. But you might be struggling without being sure why. Often, past trauma or loss experiences are the cause — even if you are able to compartmentalize and not think about those memories.

Whether your symptoms are from trauma or from current events that remind you or your body of the traumatic event, are the focus of your concerns. EMDR can greatly reduce physical and emotional symptoms coming up from the trauma.

EMDR intensives are designed for people who want or need results quickly. We have seen that this is a good fit for accomplished people with busy schedules and/or who are looking for faster healing.

Please ask about EMDR intensives if you are looking to do 90 or 120 minute sessions to work through your trauma in less sessions. These intensives are not for everyone and would require a consultation session to see if you are in a place to begin this work. This is not covered by insurance.

None of the above symptoms or experiences fit you?

Do you experience distressing emotions that appear to you, and perhaps to others, to be excessive given the current situation? Do you tend to be highly reactive to certain triggers? Is there one or more dysfunctional beliefs that you believe about yourself that on an intellectual level you know is not true?

If so, you may still be a good candidate for EMDR therapy. Contact me today for a free phone consultation to see if EMDR might help you release what no longer serves you.
